TITLE: Highly anisotropic membranes and process for making same. European Patent Application EP0042766 A2 ABSTRACT: There are disclosed highly anisotropic membranes comprising cellulose nitrate or cellulose nitrate-cellulose acetate mixed ester polymers, and comprising an integral bilayer of a first layer of cells and a second layer of cells, the cells of the first layer being at least 3 times larger (preferably 5+/- 1 times larger) than the cells of the second layer. There is also disclosed a process for making such membranes by casting from a solution of said polymer in a solvent and a non-solvent. The membranes have many uses, e.g. in laboratory and industrial filtration of liquids, bacterial sterilisation etc. INVENTORS: Kesting, Robert Emil APPLICATION NUMBER: EP19810302838 PUBLICATION DATE: 12/30/1981 FILING DATE: 06/24/1981 ASSIGNEE: PUROPORE INC (US) INTERNATIONAL CLASSES: B01D61/00; A61L2/02; B01D71/20; B05D5/00; (IPC1-7): B01D13/04 EUROPEAN CLASSES: B01D71/20; A61L2/02F; B01D67/00K14B; B01D71/16 FOREIGN REFERENCES: DE2622814A1 4035459 Process for spinning dry-fiber cellulose acetate hollow fiber membranes 3789993 CELLULOSIC REVERSE OSMOSIS MEMBRANES HAVING HIGH FLUX AND HIGH SALT REJECTION 3026571 Method of continuous manufacture of membrane filters GB1430323A
