Applications of this way of exploring technical and scientific documents are threefold at least: 1. idea screening for product development, 2. Free-To-Operate (FTO) analysis of intellectual properties and 3. customer akquisition.
1. Idea screening for product development: What ever you are thinking about in product development - APQP, Porters five forces analysis, QFD, SWOT, TRIZ or technology roadmapping - you just need at lest one: ideas. To get them you have to screen and sort a huge amount of documents related to the topic. Using these tools presented here you will be equipped best.
2. Starting an applied R&D-project you will be forced to see what is already state of the art. Now you have found a way to do this effectively.
3. Imagine you are a research institution having developed any kind of new technology. The most important thing you have to do is: LOOKING FOR CUSTOMERS (of course only in case you are not 100% funded by government). Even if you are very well establised on your field: it is impossible to know any other party out there who might be interested in what you have. Of course, only the biggest of them will have patents for there own; but knowing them you will have found the most important ones. Congratulation!
